LAHORE – The defense counsel in the National Insurance Corporation scam on Tuesday alleged that FIA Additional Director General Zafar Qureshi gave the impression in his letter to the sessions court “as if he is dictating the court”.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Mujahid Mustaqim Ahmad on Tuesday also admonished the FIA officials for not appointing its permanent representative for hearing of the case. The judge remarked this when Moonis Elahi’s counsel raised objection on FIA officials’ application seeking more time to submit the complete investigation report. Earlier, the FIA had also sought one-month time for completion and submission of fresh challan in NICL scam, whereas Moonis had filed an acquittal application through his counsels.
On Tuesday, Moonis’s counsel requested the court that his client should also be given relief if FIA was being given time for submission of fresh challan. He said the language used in Zafar’s letter to the Judge showed that Zafar was trying to dictate the court instead of following and respecting the court. The defense counsel stated that Moonis had returned to the country voluntarily for appearing before judiciary.
